Privacy Policy
A plain-English account of what Calorie AI does with your data.
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Who we are
Calorie AI is an Android app that estimates calories from a photo of your meal. This policy says what data the app handles, where it goes, and how to delete it.
Calorie AI (“we”, “us”) provides the Calorie AI app for Android (package com.nelu.calorietracker) and this website. For any privacy question, write to nelucode@gmail.com.
Effective date: 4 October 2026
Data that stays on your device
Your meals, weigh-ins, profile and photos live on your phone. They are not uploaded unless a section below says so.
The app stores this in an on-device database. It is never uploaded unless a later section says so:
- Meals and their foods, portions and nutrition.
- Weigh-ins.
- Profile answers: sex, age, height, weight, activity, goal, pace and diet preferences.
- Settings and reminders.
- Meal photos, kept in the app’s private storage. They are never uploaded for backup and are deleted when you uninstall the app.
The barcode scanner and the camera preview run entirely on your device.
AI photo scans
When you scan a meal, a smaller copy of the photo goes to Google’s Gemini model to identify the food. We do not keep the photo on any server.
When you take or pick a meal photo for AI analysis, the app sends a downscaled copy (about 1024 px) to Google’s Gemini model through Firebase AI Logic, to identify the food.
Calorie AI does not store the photo on any server. Google processes it under its Gemini API terms. The original photo stays on your device in private app storage.
If you create an account
An account is optional. If you make one, Firebase (by Google) stores your sign-in details and a profile, and a few daily summaries.
The app works without an account. If you create one, we use Firebase, a service from Google:
- Firebase Authentication: your email address, display name and the sign-in method (password or Google). Passwords are handled by Firebase. We never see them.
- Cloud Firestore: a profile document with your name, email, sign-in method, plan (goal, pace, start and goal weight, daily calories, macro targets, start date), preferences (units, diets, reminders) and timestamps. It also holds the count of free AI scans you have used.
- Firebase Realtime Database: a “presence” record (last seen time, app version, platform) and daily summaries for the last 30 days: calories, protein, carbs, fat, number of meals, and weight per day.
Cloud backup for Pro users
Pro users get a cloud backup of meals and weigh-ins. Photos are never backed up.
For Pro users only, the app backs up all meals (name, time, meal type, and foods with grams and nutrition) and weigh-ins to the cloud, so your history comes back on a new phone. Meal photos are not backed up.
Analytics and diagnostics
We use Firebase to see which features are used and to fix crashes. Events never contain your calorie or weight numbers.
- Google Analytics for Firebase: app usage events such as sign up, onboarding completed, meal logged (with meal type), weight logged, photo scan, paywall viewed, purchase and export. Events carry categories, never calorie or weight values. When you are signed in, events are tied to your account’s user ID.
- Firebase Crashlytics: crash reports with device and app details, tied to your user ID when you are signed in.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring: app performance timings.
- Firebase App Check (Play Integrity): checks that requests come from the genuine app.
No personal data is used for advertising.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Google Play Billing. The app sees only your purchase status. It never sees your card details. See Subscription and billing.
How we use data
No ads, and no selling or sharing your data for advertising.
- We use your data to run the app’s features: the plan, trends, reminders, AI scans, backup and sign-in.
- Health-related data (weight, food intake) is used only to provide the app’s features.
- There are no ads in the app. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
- Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
Who processes your data
- Google LLC: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Realtime Database, Google Analytics for Firebase, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring, App Check, and Firebase AI Logic with the Gemini model.
- Google Play: billing.

Your choices, export and deletion
You can export your data, reset the app, or ask us to delete your account and all cloud data. Deletion is completed within 30 days.
- Export: Pro users can export meals and weight as CSV.
- Reset all data: in Settings, this clears the data on your device.
- Sign out: signing out keeps your on-device data.
- Delete your account and cloud data: email nelucode@gmail.com from the address on the account, or follow the steps on the account deletion page. We complete deletion within 30 days. It removes your Firebase Authentication account, Firestore documents, Realtime Database data and any Pro backup.
Anonymised crash and analytics data kept by Google under its own retention settings is not removed by us. Google keeps it for up to 14 months for analytics data and 90 days for crash reports.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights, such as access or correction. Email nelucode@gmail.com and we will help.
Children
Calorie AI is not directed to children under 13, or the higher age of digital consent where you live. We do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so in the app or on this site.
